Daphne Turner Wins World Series of Poker Championship Open

Poker Novice Daphne Turner Is First Women To Take Home A WSOPC Open Circuit Win!

With a cash prize of $34,920 along with the coveted World Series of Poker Championship gold ring, Daphne Turner won the 11th event at the 2008 Bayou Poker Challenge $500 buy-in No-Limit Hold Em.

This was quite an accomplishment for this Texas gal as she became the first women poker player to ever win an open WSOP Circuit Tournament in the Bayou Poker Challenge; and one of six women to ever bring home a WSOP Championship ring.

Never playing in anything like this before or for this amount of cash, she almost didn’t participate in the Harrah’s New Orleans WSOPC event. Turner said, “I got in the car and I only had the clothes on my back. I did not a bother to pack. My husband told me that if I play poker that I better come home with some money. Now, I’ve cashed for $35,000.”

The 15 hour event was played over two days and Turner played stupendously at the three hour final table. The elimination of 215 players culminated into power-house poker play with Turner knocking out eight of nine opponents during final table play. The final table also included Christy Williams who came to the table with 20K in chips. However, Williams, a real-estate broker from Louisiana was the first player that had to bid adieu. Daphne Turner went head to head for the win against seasoned Vegas poker player David Scarano. Going into heads-up play her 85K chip lead was slightly ahead of his 70K chip count.

On the final hand, Scarano made an ill-timed shove into his opponent Turner. Holding rags, Scarano ran into the trip tens of Turner, who flopped a set holding T 9 off suit. The turn and river bricked out and gave the win to the 39-year old bill collector and poker novice!

Congratulations Daphne for your amazing physical and mental prowess!
